Mining Industry Salary Surveys

Since 1992, Coopers Consulting and PricewaterhouseCoopers have been conducting the premier measure of salaried staff compensation practices for the North American mining industry. Our 2009 survey reports were released on August 14, 2009.

We believe our particular surveys to be the largest of their kind and the most representative of salaried staff compensation practices in the North American mining industry. The success of our efforts can be measured in terms of our sample; for the 2009 survey year, our mining industry salary survey database contains salaried staff compensation information for 13,676 incumbents (compared to 11,410 in 2008 and 9,606 in 2007). Of the incumbents reported 6,160 are based in Canada and 7,516 in the United States . Within this group, data is provided for some 250 Canadian and United States based mining operations (107 in Canada and 143 in the United States ). The reports contain multiple sorts of the data: by company size for executive and other corporate positions (as measured by revenue and employee count); and, for mine site based positions, by size of mine site (as measured by employee count), by major region within each of Canada and the United States, and by commodity mined (again, for each of Canada and the United States).

In 2009, aside from our existing North America surveys, we expanded our offerings to include a new global survey of mining industry expatriate compensation practices. In 2010, we plan on expanding our survey to include Australia ; other opportunities are being evaluated.

Please follow the links ( Expatriate Compensation Survey 2009.pdf and Mining Industry Salary Surveys 2009.pdf ) for further background about the surveys, the topics/positions covered, and the type of available reports. Reports are made available to participants only and will be of interest to mining companies with either mine sites and/or executive/ corporate/exploration offices in either Canada or the United States (and, for 2010, Australia ) and/or firms with employees on expatriate status anywhere, globally. 2010 report pricing has yet to be finalized but should approximate 2009 pricing.

Scheduled survey data collection start dates/data due dates/report release dates for 2010 are: Canadian and United States Mining Industry Salary Survey(s) - April/June/August; Australia Mining Industry Salary Survey – January/March/April.
